Hi! I'm Thảo — currently doing a Master’s in AI at Singapore Management University, where I'm learning to build useful things with machine learning 💻.
Right now, I'm figuring things out as a Data Science intern at the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) – SingHealth, working on ML models for genetic and blood test data. My goal is to become a full-fledged machine learning engineer — someone who can solve messy, real-world problems with smart ML solutions.
I first got into this field during an exchange semester at the University of Technology Sydney, where I worked with a research team on behavioral modeling, NLP and predictive analytics. Since then, I’ve been exploring applied ML through projects in e-commerce, healthcare, sustainability, etc. — trying to build things that are both technically interesting and practically helpful.
Outside of code, I enjoy reading, watching movies, and spending time in nature — whether it’s swimming, hiking, or wandering through new neighborhoods. I’m also into trying new homemade smoothie recipes and occasionally pretending I know what I’m doing at the gym.
The MITB AI program gives me a strong grasp of essential computer science and AI concepts like CS Math, Data Structures & Algorithms, Applied Machine Learning, Generative AI with LLMs and Machine Learning Engineering.
As the recipient of the VinUniversity Global Exchange Student Ambassador Grant, I gained valuable business analytics and data science skills during my exchange semester at the University of Technology Sydney. I also actively participated in projects with the DSMIL and UTS Consulting Club.
At VinUniversity, I co-founded VinUni Business Insiders, the first business academic club on campus, providing nationwide university students with business training. I also completed valuable internships at Shopee and FinFan. Opting for Business Analytics as my academic concentration was a natural choice for me, as I find the prospect of leveraging data to assist businesses extremely fascinating.
This project develops a forecast function for a specific bank’s cash withdrawal by utilizing characteristics of individual ATMs. After evaluating different modeling methodologies, a feed-forward neural network is chosen as the optimal model, offering the lowest MSE, mitigating multicollinearity, and reducing overfitting risk.
